I was born in Dubai, UAE and since I can remember, it always amazed me and other children how big Burj Khalifa is.

The tallest building in the world is located in the heart of Dubai and you can see it from anywhere in the city and even from far deep in the desert.

My parents told me that many people come from around the world to admire this architectural beauty and when they land to Dubai, they can almost touch it from the window of the airplane.

During the night, the building displays beautiful light shows and messages. Festivities and events from all cultures around the world are being acknowledged and celebrated through individual displays.

A wise Emirati grandfather!

One nice evening, while waiting for this magical spectacle to start, a nice Emirati grandfather came next to me and asked me: “Did you know the Burj Khalifa is so tall that you can watch the sunset twice in the same evening, if you look from down and then use the elevator and see it again from up?”

My eyes of surprise moved up to the sky, trying to imagine the wonderful fact I have just learned from the knowledgeable grandfather; then I kindly asked him to tell me more. He smiled, nodded, and I and three other children gathered around him full of excitement to listen to his stories.

He told us that the shape of the spider lily, which is a desert flower, inspired the building’s architecture. How amazing is that?! Then he told us that the wonder of Burj Khalifa was built thanks to the collaboration of 196 nationalities and it took six long years and a lot of efforts and passion to build it. This is so cool that it reminded me of all the different people I met during my travels.

He also said that Burj Khalifa is so tall that:

  • It has 163 floors and 57 elevators.
  • It hosts the tallest restaurant in the World.
  • It is one of the most photographed buildings in the world.
  • The concrete used to build Burj Khalifa is equivalent to the weight of 100,000 elephants.

One of my favorite facts I learned today is that the condensation water from the building is used to water the flowers.

“But remember”, the nice man said: “Burj Khalifa is more than just a building, it is an inspiration for everyone to reach for the stars, so be brave and always aim for the stars too” and while walking away he whispered: “Next time I will tell you how Dubai looked like when I was a child like you are”.

At the end of this exciting adventure before falling asleep, I couldn’t stop thinking about the breathtaking views I have felt when looking high in the sky, to find the end of the tower. For the moment, I have not had the chance to go up to the observation decks. I hope to be lucky enough that soon day you take me up and we share our pictures.
